[Recent events have demonstrated yet again the need to understand your allies as well as your enemies, and Maketh does not intend to be lax in her due diligence. There are several new additions to the Guard and though she's spoken briefly to all of them, few are truly known to her.
That needs to be corrected immediately.
Thus, she approaches one of the new members when he's finished with patrol, back perfectly straight.]
[ Well this isn't a text Drake ever expected to get. He frowns at the phone a little, worried. And completely ignores her comment on it being awkward -- it doesn't have to be. ]
[ Drake hasn't spoken to Lup since before the dream. Where he'd told her everything. He'd meant to contact her about it, really, but then there was the mess with Ephemera and Kyna and he's taken extra assignments and is working with Rey and Delmar and still hasn't gotten a decision from Liv and... it's just been a lot, okay? His life is a LOT right now and he didn't quite have the energy to spare for this conversation. But it's apparently gonna happen now anyway. ]
[Sorry, Drake, this is very abrupt, but have this extremely loud child appearing at you.]
Miss Temperance said you are good and nice and that I need to talk to you to read her book so I am here doing those things let's be friends I like you already!
[ Hayden definitely appears to be and acts like the youngest child that Drake's encountered here so far, which throws him off quite a bit. Hadriel's no place for kids and yet they keep popping up. He instantly has a thousand questions, starting with 'who's looking after you?' and ending with 'did Miss Temperance say this was age appropriate?' but if she told the kid he could be on the list... well. Okay??? ]
Sure, but there's a wait for it. What's your name, kiddo?
[Lup sends out a mass text to all of her closest friends that just contains a photo of her (looking very much alive though a little banged up) and a quick line of text:]
[ Mostly because Drake seemed pretty good at passing as Alive, which R is failing pretty spectacularly at since he messed up his face trying to get to Julie. There's a reason R is voice calling his zombie buddy instead of video chatting. ]
[ Oh, fuck. Fuck. Why are you doing this shit, Hadriel? Why take them? Lup needs her twin, Drake knows that, it's not fair for loss to hit her twice so quickly. He might be a mess right now, but needs to pull it together for her at least. ]
[ Drake has absolutely no idea what his weirdo vampire little brother has been up to on the network, so when he doesn't recognize the username he just figures it's someone either very bored, very lonely, or both. He personally hasn't hit anybody with a/s/l since high school but hey. Everybody here's from different time periods. Why not? ]
[ ...so Drake once had an entire conversation about how capes are ridiculous superhero attire. The outfit is not actually a point in her favor, and she looks... very young. But that means what she actually says makes more sense. He and Nick discussed him taking over training recruits, not "tests" or whatever this is, exactly. Something that implies he's going to be making a call.
They'll have to talk about exactly how vetting is going to work from now on, actually, but Drake files that away for later. His response comes quickly enough and he appears in the video to be a pretty average guy, nothing especially distinctive besides a friendly smile. ]
Hey, Tinya. We could use some more hands on deck, that's for sure. When's the soonest you can meet me at HQ?
[The whatever curse that was plaguing Hadriel this time was finally over. The aggravating isolation was finally over and the people were back -- or so he hoped. Before Edgar could even realize what he was doing he found himself rushing towards Drake's apartment. An unusual coldness had settled down on his small body, shaking his being with dreadful fear. Well then again, Edgar can't say that he hadn't been aware of the feeling. It's always been there but he's just repressed his own loneliness. But right now? It was too strong for him to just ignore and push aside.
Allan, the most important person, wasn't here and he had been alone for so long.
And he needed someone. A friend, family.]
Drake! Drake! [Edgar shouts for him before he's even reached the usual window he uses to enter the apartment.] Are you here? Drake!
[He continues to call and starts going through the apartment, looking for him, instead of waiting for the answer.]
[ Drake has had a fucking week, little bro. The event just ended a few hours ago, in which time Nick had really come through for him -- ran to Hope's temple and back to feed him, and helped him up to his apartment where he'd promptly collapsed. The synth brought him normal food as well, since going without that for so long contributed to his weakness as much as anything else, but he still feels like complete shit and so hasn't really moved yet.
His glamour has also worn off and Lup's not back from her trip yet, so Drake will be lying low until she can come by. He hears Edgar's voice and then a rustle at the bedroom window and calls back to him. Edgar will find him sprawled on the couch, hair white and skin unnaturally pale, eyes rimmed with red. ]
In here! [ Ugh, even his voice sounds weak. He despises this. ] I'm in the living room, Edgar.
[ Then he realizes that if this happened to him, Edgar must be starving, too. Unless he'd found a donor or victim over the past ten days... Luckily Hope puts their meals in the same box, meaning it's in the kitchen already. ]
[ Drake lifts his head from the schedule he was helping Nick with, blinking at how formal Mariane is being. She really is a soldier, despite her age... he nods once, setting his pen down. ]
I've seen enough, I think. You could probably kick my ass, honestly, and I know you could handle the responsibility, but it's not just about that. It's about us being responsible for you.
[ He let Tinya spread her wings already, and Mariane has even more experience. But Drake doesn't know her as well. ]
Are you bored stationed at the clinic? It's not much more interesting elsewhere, most of the time. Arrivals day is the busiest and you'd still be alongside a bunch of us then, so... if you can tell me why, then sure.
