[ Oh, fuck. Fuck. Why are you doing this shit, Hadriel? Why take them? Lup needs her twin, Drake knows that, it's not fair for loss to hit her twice so quickly. He might be a mess right now, but needs to pull it together for her at least. ]
[she doesn't respond for awhile, like she needs the time for his words to sink in, but after five or so minutes pass, Drake finally gets another text.]
[ That's fine, since she does answer. Drake's on his way as soon as he reads it, not sure what he'll do or say once he gets there but determined to at least be there.
He spots Lup easily enough, a tall slim figure at the water's edge. No one else around, so she'll hear him coming. ]
Lup. [ There's no sense asking if she's okay. Of course she's not. Instead he just comes right up beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders without hesitation. ] Hey.
[She's just where she promised to be, dressed in a pair of short cut-offs and a crop top, standing right beneath the blazing suns, soaking in heat. Lup doesn't make a move to glance Drake's way when he approaches, though when she feels his arm slip around her shoulder, she leans into the touch slightly.
She's not her usual bright self, but at least she isn't crying either. She just looks defeated, long ears drooped downwards, shoulders slumped.]
[ He turns his head to kiss the side of hers, closing his eyes at the glare of the suns off the water. She's handling this way better than he did, but he's got the feeling it's just putting on a brave face. One that's bound to crack, eventually. ]
[Lup snorts at that, a mirthless laugh, but Drake kisses her and she lets him in close, evidence of their closeness and her trust in him. If it was anyone else, Lup would bite their head off in her grief. But with Drake? She can give him a little more room, give him a better glimpse into what she's feeling.]
Everyone at home was bumming me out. Just needed to get out for a bit.
[A half truth. The other half being that sharing a room with someone who left meant having to deal with their disappearance every single time she looked around the room. But Drake knew that problem well.]
S'quiet here. Folks are all sissies who can't stand th' heat, but we always loved it. Our home world had two suns, this is just what we grew up with.
[ That gets a little hum of agreement -- he can guess at the other half. ]
You can stay with me for awhile if you want. I don't know if that'd be any easier, but... I like the company.
[ As for the current scenery he's not crazy about the double suns, himself, but not one of the sissies Lup mentioned either. He can tolerate it just fine. Will stay out here with her as long as she likes. He can't really sunburn or overheat, just gets uncomfortable. A small price to pay, and he's used to it from long patrols. ]
You've never told me much about your home world. The original one, I mean. I know you guys keep traveling.
[It's probably unhealthy to just huddle in Taako's bed, clinging to his pillow and pretending it's him, but it's a comfort she's having trouble denying herself. There's also Angus, who she knows needs taking care of. He's trying to hide his hurt, but the kid needs more practice bottling things up.
Lup peers over at Drake before she's reaching out to grab his shirt and gently tug him down to the ground with her, so they can sit together. It makes it easier for the elf to press up against his side, head flopping onto his shoulder.]
It sucked. Taako's the only good memory I have from it. [Maybe that's harsh and not completely true, but their childhood hadn't been great. Folks may criticize the twins for their sharp tongues and love of bullying others, but they've come a long way from who they used to be. Drake likely wouldn't recognize who Lup had been at in her early age. She was still passionate and bright and beautiful, but she was so much more aggressive and cold, always looking for a fight. Always looking for a way to hurt the world like it had hurt her brother.
Now that anger within her has significantly calmed, only really surfacing when it needs to.]
--But it was beautiful. Two suns, purple sky. Full of dipshits, but what world isn't. At least there was variety there. It wasn't all just humans. There were dwarves an' tieflings an' gnomes an' aarakocra... Really vibrant.
[ He's not gonna push her, maybe she needs to be in the place where Taako was, right now. Just like Drake's never giving up the apartment. But it's still painful, and she has options.
Lup tugs him down and Drake sinks to the ground beside her, wrapping his arm back around her shoulders as she resettles. Taking her hand in his and threading their fingers so they both have something to hold onto. He's getting used to the glare off the water, but it's still easier to look down at their laps as Lup describes her homeworld. ]
A variety of dipshits. [ He echoes her lightly, smiling a little. ] What's an Aarakocra like? Never heard of them before.
[Lup hates how well that Drake understands. Only because he's just been dragged through the same thing. To lose Taako and Ephemera so close to one another. Who could it possibly be next?
Their fingers curl together, Lup pressing her soft palm into his, as she settles close to the man. Nothing could ever feel right when her twin was gone, but at least in this moment, the world feels calm. Which after the insanity of the last few days, Lup so desperately needs.]
S'kinda, uh, giant bird folks, I guess. Little shorter than most humans, but their wingspans are kinda nuts. Knew a real nice owl chick back home while we were studying at uni. She was workin' towards a specialization in necromancy. Still swallowed rabbits down totally whole. It was kinda impressive.
[ Well, Drake's not planning on going anywhere. Not that he believes Taako or Ephemera were, either, but it's the sentiment. And as for here and now he's not leaving Lup. She snuggles in and he holds her gently, like she's done for him so many times the past week. ]
Isn't that dangerous? To swallow the bones, I mean. A rabbit's much bigger than a mouse, I don't know if that'd pass alright.
[It's not much, but she huffs out a laugh at that, shrugging against him.]
Heck if I know. Never asked. If I ever see one here, I'll throw the question out.
[Or if she ever goes back. If she ever follows Taako and then is forced to forget about this place.]
Y'know... When that world got destroyed, we pissed everyone on the ship off. They were all mourning. They all lost their families and their homes and, I guess like, everything they've ever known. But 'Ko and I got trashed on red wine and just, laughed. Sang stupid songs. Made jokes.
Really started shit off with our new coworkers on a good note.
