[With Anakin gone, Padmé knows that things have changed. Obi-Wan has told her that she can still contract to his Dominant, and yet... It may well be in her head, but she would rather not be a third wheel, so to speak.
It is one of the reasons that she does reach out today. That, and she does want to check up on him.]
Hello Drake. I hope you've been doing well after all this kerfuffle that's happened?
[ Drake did see Obi-Wan's post, but didn't see Padme's reply -- he wasn't sure if it was polite or would be painful to check in on her about it. Leave it to her to check in first and give him the opportunity. He smiles at his device, maybe she can hear it in his voice. ]
Hey Padme. I was stuck in the Up, it wasn't great not being able to help but I'm doing fine. How are you?
[It isn't the first time that they have been separated, although it's not like Padmé can see him when he returns on Coruscant. It could be weeks, months, or even years before she is reunited with her husband.]
Mm. I can only imagine. My partner had been stuck up there as well. Thankfully, I did have a friend in the Down and he had no qualms letting me stay with him.
[There is still a strangeness at being able to just speak about Anakin without worry. She'd gone into the relationship knowing that it would have to be kept a secret. But there is a little pause.]
Ah. Yes. That was Obi-Wan.
[It is a stiff upper lip that she usually gives anyway, at least for the most part. Queen and senator- one tends not to show too much emotion.]
We are often apart. The war hasn't helped matters any either. That, and the whole private nature of our relationship.
You hadn't told me about that... I'm still sorry he's not here now.
[ In another universe entirely, in all likelihood. He just sympathizes, but he can hear that Padme's trying to minimize things so he'll follow her lead. ]
Hey, I've got tonight off. You want to come hang out and try making that bread you mentioned?
It's their code, although I suppose not many are aware of it. I doubt I even know the half of it, given that I wasn't born with the ability to use the Force. What I have learned, I picked up through Anakin.
[Perhaps more than the Order may have liked him to share, but she hadn't done anything with it.]
Then I'll happily rope you into being my helper.
[And, it will give her a chance to bring up the whole contract request.]
[ Drake hums -- it's not something he knows anything about either, and Anakin's not here to ask. Maybe Obi-Wan would, but Drake doesn't know him and isn't going to track a stranger down for an idle curiosity. He's more interested in seeing Padme, maybe cheering her up a little. ]
I'm out right now but I'll hit the store and head back -- you can come over whenever.
[ He detours to the store on his way home, getting what he figures are the right ingredients for what she described. Whenever Padme gets to his apartment he'll be there, everything she might need set out on the kitchen counter. ]
[It does take her longer than expecting, being slightly harassed by the guards. She'd had to iterate again and again, before they finally allow her through. There does eventually come a soft knock at his door.]
[ Drake is just starting to feel bad about having her make the trip when there's a knock at his door -- he's there to open it quickly, greeting her with a friendly smile. ]
Hey, Padme. I hope they didn't give you too much trouble. Come in.
[A thought that he should throw out the door. A little hassle to see a friend is doable, even if she may have had to bite her cheek a little from going into full Senator mode on them.]
A small hurdle. They have quite tightened things up though.
[It would be an unruly mess if she didn't make some attempt to tame it, although there are days when she may be lazier than others. Still, a variety of styles had been picked up during her years as Queen, although thankfully the heavy headpieces had been left behind.]
I actually brought some chai tea, which is similar to what we drink with the bread at home.
[Uncertain whether he has heard of it, or if it would interest him.]
Yeah, it is. I dated a girl real into tea once, she was strict about everything being traditional... green tea straight, chai with milk and sugar. I never knew there were so many rules about tea.
[ He sets the kettle on the stove and turns it on, then gestures to the bread baking stuff he got. ]
I may have blasphemed in her eyes then. I drank my green tea with lemon.
[And she would do it again. Obi-Wan's tea supply had been a little raided during her stay there, and she would seek to refill it one day when she was able.
She moves forward though, eyes glancing across the items, before giving a nod.]
It is typically Naboo flour that we use, although that's not exactly a thing I've been here, so any flour should do and not alter the taste overly. Thank you for picking it up.
[ He grins, and lets her survey the groceries. What he grabbed was from memory of his mother making bread, plus the jam she'd mentioned. He already had stuff like sugar. ]
[ He considers the cupboards for a moment, glancing back and forth like it's a guessing game, then opens one. It's correct, and he gives a soft 'aha!' as he bends down to pull out the bowls for her. Measuring cups are in the drawer, and they're set in front of Padme as well. ]
[She could go by weight, or even wing it, if need be. Padmé had made it enough when she was younger, although it has been quite a few years since the last time. Thankfully he does find them, earning an amused smile from her. Luck?]
Just one, unless you wanted to double the recipe? It makes one loaf of average size.

I'm glad you were safe. But I was actually asking about him. Your partner -- I saw him mentioned in that post.
You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, I just know what it's like and thought I'd offer a shoulder.

[Not that Padmé ever agreed with that thought... It made no sense to her. Love is never a weakness.
He does catch her by surprise, if only due to how kind he is. It's not that she isn't used to it, but...]
I would like the distraction, but only if you don't actually have other plans.
no subject
[ And he'd chosen just about the worst possible partner for an undercover officer. But it wasn't meant to be anyway. ]
No other plans. The company would be nice.

I'll leave shortly.

But I am glad you invited, and that I have come.

[ He closes the door behind her, admiring her hair as he turns back -- it's always so elegant, he can't imagine how long it takes to do. ]
Can I get you a drink?

[ He gestures for her to follow him into the kitchen, where he gets a kettle and starts filling it. ]
Do you take it with milk and sugar like we do in my world?
no subject
[Personally she did like it with milk and sugar though, finding it a bit too tart and spiced for her tastebuds otherwise.]
no subject
[ He sets the kettle on the stove and turns it on, then gestures to the bread baking stuff he got. ]
Does this look right?

We can get started whenever you want, then.

Have you measuring cups and two bowls?

You need eggs, right?
